Capital of Xembares

A capital of the Doric order belonging to a funerary archaic column, set above the tomb of Xembares. On the abacus it is engraved one of the oldest inscriptions in Doric dialect reading from right to left, commemorating the name of the deceased and his father.

In two of the vertical sides of the abacus there are holes possibly for hanging wreaths or ribbons. On the leaves of the necking there are traces of colour. It is dated to the first half of the 6th c. BC.
